I have never seen a Union marked knife stamped like this one - just thought that you might be interested. The knife itself looks like a 1940's to 50's Camillus or Ulster, so it coud have been a contract knife. Could be a fake of course, but seems unlikely that someone would go to the trouble of faking a non existent marking.

Interesting piece knifeaholic. I'm wondering(and this is pure speculation)if that stamping was tried when KA-BAR changed their stamping to the italicized KaBar? Wasn't that in the late 40's early 50's? Hope somebody can dope it out.

went through all my reference books. no luck on just "union" over olean,n.y.

I am sure David will give a more informed response however my opinion is that it is a transitional stamp lesser used and a bit more rare than the usual. The style reminds me of that of the Queen City scroll of 28-45 and is indicitive of that time frame . Here is a pic of a QC ( I am posting in only as a reference point to a time fame of the style of stamp and not as a relation of the knife in question ).

Although I am well versed in older Union knives from Tidioute, the years in Olean, NY are not as clear to me. I have NEVER seen this script before on a Union knife. I will look at the old UNION Catalog (1912-1924) in the back of my book to see if this pattern matches and let you know, or if someone is handy a copy that is reading this maybe they could chime in, as I am not at home at this time. That would clear up the question of "is it a real Union Knife or not"

I do question the stamp, but I am not quick to discount it at this point. LT may be very right in his comment about it being a rare stamp.

I have learned that in knives, many things are possible. For example: American Hone Co. Olean NY. Same company as UNION. I am still looking a razor with this stamp. I saw one at the KaBar visitors center. Never seen another. I wonder if knives were stamped this way too?
