All About Pocket Knives

Hey there, I found this Sta-Sharp the other day & I can’t seem to find out much about it. I know it’s a Sears knife but I can’t seem to find out much more information. I’m wondering if it’s a higher value black handled pk compared to most? I saw a Sta-Sharp Whittler go with 13 bids for $135. I’m wondering what value category I should put this in my collection. Any information would be helpful, thanks.

I think it's basically a 1950s Camillus. I have a 70 Jr. Cattle Knife with the same shield and scale material.

Not much.$5 or so.

I thought it was a low $ knife too until I saw this Whittler that sold at auction. Why would this sell for $137 & have 17 bids? Seems kinda odd to me. That’s why I was asking if maybe it was somewhat collectible. Here is a screenshot of the auction which shows sale price & number of bids.

Whittlers with an Blade Etch are rather uncommon ,Given the Knife an almost mint guarantee ! Uncommon Stamp would attract a lot of Buyer's on any given Day IMO K.C.( In Other Words Just About The Cream of The Crop of Sta-Sharp )

If your knife were cleaned up, I’d pay more than $5 for it. Lol.

Imo, the whittler was over priced at that sale price. Either shill budding going on or some bidders with more money than sense. Doesn’t mean that yours or it are bad knives, to the contrary. For me, the really collectible Sta-Sharp knives are the old bone scaled ones with a nice etch.

The one from eBay seems to have clean blades from what we can see. The ad also says it has the etch. The stockman you show looks to have pitted blades and no remaining etch. Plus, they both have synthetic handles.

So cleaned up, I’d probably pay $20-25 for it if it were a size, etc... that suited my likes. The one from eBay, a little more just because it’s a whittler. But neither one would get a second look from me at that sale price.

A Sta-Sharp trapper, mint, strong etch, Rogers bone went for less than $90 the other day on Ebay. A steal. It was a $150 to $200 knife.

I’m thinking now that I could definitely help the value of this knife if I could clean it up & expose the etching on the blade. Any ideas how to do that? I can faintly see the etch under the crap. This is a 4” knife btw.

Almost anything more than a #2 pencil will remove the etch. Once they get that bad they’re hard to save.
