Name that Tang Stamp

I got this knife at the Wilmington show several years ago. I thought for sometime that it was a Curtain & Clark but I no longer think so. It is a 3 5/8" jack with a claw hammer shield, a sheepfoot blade and chisel blade. Never seen it before. The tang stamp is a "co" inside of a larger "C", and both of those inside a large "C". Both blades are stamped. Any ideas???

Well I sure haven't been around long enough to answer the question, but there are several companys whose initials could fit. That stamp is just not in any of my references.
If it were my knife though, I'd be hopeing it was from Coleman Cutlery Co., of Titusville Pa. Has an overall look that suggests a Pennsylvania knife to me. The shield though, seems to suggest a hardware company.
I hope you get a knowledgable answer. I'm curious.
Maybe Pa knives will come by to squash my theory.

For its worth I had some years a fixed blade bowie type with a similiar mark. Was told that it might be a Chipaway Cutlery Co.

Could be Chipaway, here is what Levine has noted. "E. C. Simmons Hardware Co. (Keen Kutter, Chipaway) St. Louis MO"
Anyone else have this tang stamp?

I have some Canton Cutlery Company blades also but nothing clsoe to this. I will ask at some of the shows here in the east and see what I come with.

I'm pretty sure that's a Curtin and Clark out of Missouri. They did that c in a c thing on their blade etches as well.

here is a curtin and clark picture i borrowed. blade etch is similar but not the same as the tang on your carpenters jack. the tang markings are straight letters. still think it's a canton.

nifbuf, I think it doesn't have enough "C"s to be a Curtin and Clark.
Curtin and Clark Cut. Co. needs 4, if you have the "Co." in there, and your tang has 3. The blade etch on the other knife has 4 though. Not definitive, but worth noting.
Canton made some odd utility knives. . . . .maybe.

Here is a copy of the info in Canton Cut Co, from Goins' second edition.
There is a reason I like the old editions too. The stamp in question is not in the latest edition.

hey dale, i had identified earlier but a pic is worth a thou.....and two pics must be worth even more!

My second edition is © in 1982.
I wonder why the tang stamps were dropped from the third edition?
