All About Pocket Knives

So I like to buy old tools at local auctions and sell them; some I keep. I like antiques in general and things like tools and knives are cool because you can still use them, not just sit them on a shelf, and much of the time 'they don't make them like they used to'.

Well, an auctioneer I frequent often had this massive sale of knives and I bought, I think, 138 of them, which was a tiny fraction of the sale. Some junk and parts knives but some really cool stuff I can make a profit on. At the prices I got some of them I know I'd do ok, even though I spent more than I should have total and am not that knowledgeable about knives.

So what is the problem then? Well, I found this wonderful site with its a massive treasure of information in helping me id these old knives, but all of the great post with such history and enthusiasm has triggered the nostalgic and antique and general knife lover in me(while not a big collector, I have always loved them and have several), and I'm finding it hard to part with the collection! I often get hit by the collecting bug anyway. I'm buying my first house soon and the idea was to make some money off these to help a bit with closing costs. This community is rubbing off on me.

I have posted a few questions on here and have read a lot more. I really love finding out the history of these knives.

I zeroed in on that Marbles Bob Cat box. If there is a knife in the box and it IS a Marbles in factory condition, it was probably made around the turn of the millennium and most of them normally go for north of $100. Just sayin'. Look it up on eBay's closed auctions.

Edit: Also noticed the one that looks like it might be a Western Black Beauty but something about it makes me wonder if it may be one of the cheaper clones. Then I zoomed in on it and spied what looks like the pins for the bifurcated tang that Western was "famous" for.

Yep, I want to see the Black Beauty; I homed in on that one right away. I might even want to keep it.

In a year or two, you will have triple that amount under our bad influence.

If it is only your kitchen table that has been taken over by knives none of us here will see that as very serious. Every single horizontal surface above the floor in my house is covered by knives i want to check over when i have the time. Some have been waiting for nearly 10 years and when i do start looking i often find a real gem that i had no idea i owned. Makes being in my house a 'knife adventure'.
Basically, do not worry, keep accumulating knives, sell some, keep others and spend time here at AAPK where people see your kitchen table as both 'normal' and 'interesting'.
If you live alone it is easier to get all surfaces knife covered and keep them this way.

Thanks for the welcomes. For the curious, it is a new in box Marbles campcraft, and it is a real black beauty. Info I learned from this site. The one near the BB is a Canadian DH Russell belt knife.

That auction had a ton of Case knives too, both in new and used condition. They went for higher prices, but after looking at Case info here and ebay, still good deals. I should have grabbed some of those too, but I was already way over budget.

Another big problem I have now is how do you pick a EDC out of this mess?

Small update; offer I put on a house accepted! Now it just has to get through appraisal and inspection. Been a very stressful process(I imagine selling one is even worse) and the move two counties away will be a nightmare, but I'm finally going to be a homeowner. Really have to move the knives now, I've been dragging my feet because they are so cool.
