All About Pocket Knives

I had a couple of jack knives with broken bone handles. As I want to use these as EDC. I de used to try my hand at epoxy repair.

I used Gorilla 5 minute epoxy and soft pastels to tint it. After several experiments with colors. My wife helped me a great deal on this project. As she is an artist, she did the color match. The lighter colors worked well. The dark in the jogging I might redo.

This is how I de used to proceed. First I matched the base color and filled in the handle. After allowing to setup overnight. I then sanded down to the correct shape and did the jigging a bit deeper than the existing. My thought here is to fill in the jigging with the dark color. Then I will go back and jig a bit of the fill out giving it the texture while keeping the dark in.

I am not sure how that will go. I need to do that still.
One big issue is when the epoxy dries it is nice and shiny matching the bone. Once I sand to shape it is dull and gets a bit lighter. I tried burnishing a bit on the epoxy. It brought it up some. I might get a felt wheel on my dremel and do it more.

Looks like it turned out pretty nice! I've recently tried repairs using Acraglas...and experienced the same dullness after grinding / sanding. I placed a thin layer of clear fingernail polish, over the completed repair and it brought the shine back up. Here's a link to a few Acraglas repairs.
My last post, in the link has pictures of before and after fingernail polish.

YES.... very nicely done.....
I am trying to get up enough intestinal fortitude to try some repairs like that. I have such a bad case of OCD that all my projects can never be good enough...... (It's a real disease....LOL).
I am studying up on everyone's methods and one of THESE days... I am gonna jump in and give it a go!

Too funny, my wife is the same way. She kept trying to get it better. I am really fine with our first go. As these are not collectors knives just EDC types. I am fine with it.

Mike, that needs to be CDO (in alphabetical order, as it SHOULD BE!!!).
