All About Pocket Knives

This guy jumped off a table at the swap and I took pity and coughed up the four bucks asked so I could take it home.
From what I could find out, it’s post 1955, thanks to its Virobloc ring. I haven’t been able to find anything exact, but a pic of a 1985 model has a newer looking handle stamp. The locking ring was modified in 2000, so it’s def older than that.
My son is gonna drool. He got a brand new one last year, but like me, older is better!

Zoogirl, I like the feel of the old ones better than the new. I got lucky a few years back and found the big foot tall display, the box with a full set, and a few old ones, and I don't even collect them. I hear they are great for wood carving. ___Dave

Nice catch! My son gave me a number 12 for Christmas. I modified the handle and turned the blade into a drop point. It’s great for an out in the woods knife, almost like a small machete. They’re great users and take a fantastic edge.

I may drop it in the camping gear or maybe even take it to work for opening chair bundles.
We have one style that’s made offsite and comes wrapped up. The longer blade would be a big help. I haven’t tried to sharpen it yet. It was pretty dirty when I got it and this is actually the cleaned up version. I hit it with rust remover and a chunk of potscrubber. Work would probably take off the rest, especially if I have to cut down any of the big cardboard bins.

Old opinel are perfect for practicing mods and sharpening! You can’t go wrong. #9

Looks great and probably lets you get a good, solid grip on it. Very nice!
I think I’m gonna leave mine alone. It looks like it’s been places and done things.
Hopefully not things like spending time in an evidence locker...

Beautiful old Opinel zoogirl! For a practical,sharp,and inexpensive knife an Opinel is hard to beat. I only have two of them;both of which I bought because of their extremes in size. The #2 is the smallest and has no lock and the largest is I believe a display piece(#13)and has a highly polished finish.
