The Lord is my Shepherd

Jan 2 - my Dad passed away in comfort at the age of 88 in a hospice after suffering renal failure in the end stages of Alzheimer’s Disease. I’ll miss my Dad but feel he is now at peace. I am comforted by the memories - his love, kindness and generosity to not only his family but to all he knew will never be forgotten.... His service in the US Navy and Army was honored at the funeral. He was always very proud to have served our country.

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

AMEN

Lee,

So sorry to read this. I realize the grief is so acute and painful right now, I was where you were a few years back. Nothing I can say will make that pain go away, but it will get better with time. I know from your posts and our conversations that your father meant a lot to you. As you said, he is at peace. That is small comfort, but he is also no longer a prisoner of Alzheimers.

I can only offer my thoughts and prayers, and of course, a listening ear if you need to talk.

Glenn

Lee my deepest sympathies are with you my friend. My father and I suffered through that black hole of Alzheimer's disease for many years before his death in 2007 at 87. It was such a tempest of emotions during that time. It is such a trying disease on families. I wish you the best.

Godspeed Lee. On 12/21 we lost my FIL 11 days after he was diagnosed with lymphatic cancer here at our home, so I can fully relate to what you are going through right now. The Dan Fogelberg song "The Leader of the Band" plays over and over in my head and I can't get it to stop. You know how to track me down, call if you need a good ear. ::handshake::

Lee my heart goes out to you. Always difficult to see ones we love pass. In cases like Alzheimer's sometimes death is a friend. 15 years ago my dad died of ALS. I didn't want to loose him but I didn't want him to have to live any longer in that condition. My loss was his gain. But I grieve for you as it still hurts.

Lee, how you have described your father's life says a it all! He was a loving, kind and generous man to all he met. He was also a patriot, celebrate his life as you and the family go forward, claiming the strength the 23rd Psalm provides for all who will listen to its' words. God Bless you through this difficult time.
