It truly is an 'awesome' knife. You will not be disappointed.
Note: "Sod Buster" name was invented by Case in 1970 when the 38 pattern first came out. These 'Clasp' knives have been made in Germany since late 1800's.

Wood but i don't know which wood it is. Knife is heavy, so it's dense wood. Very neat grain under 9x loupe. Might be black walnut.

Probably a California knife originally based on the fact that it's from a fruit company and has the LUcerne telephone exchange. The two-letter exchange codes were introduced in the late 1920s but the two-letter plus five-number codes (like the knife's LU 4-1405) in the late 1930s and rolled out into the 1940s.

Growing up in the SF Bay Area (Hayward) we had a Lucerne exchange code (LU 1 if I remember right). Lucerne covered the area around Hayward and Castro Valley and south into Fremont towards San Jose.

Other parts of the country had their own LU exchanges (e.g., LUdlow, LUther) but the fact that it's for a fruit company argues for CA.

Sorry for the useless information but I'm feeling lousy and just hanging around on the computer biding time until a 10:45 doctor's appointment. Idle hands...
