All About Pocket Knives

It's a pretty sad commentary that I live less than 20 miles from the plant and today I finally made the time to stop!! My wife and I were VERY pleased with what we saw. It looks like I will be selling GEC knives now!!
I had a primitive bone that had uneven scales that I had bought on Ebay. I showed it to them and a nicer colored one appeared magically out of a drawer and was offered in exchange with no question whatsoever!!

Then they killed me!! I am a sucker for a nice sheath knife and they had the new line of Tidioute sheath knives out and ready for shipment!! Guess what I bought? Then chocolate bone and yellow corian!!



I don't think that the distributors have these yet!!

Hey!!!!!!!! COME ON!!!!!!! SHOW US A PICTURE!!!!!!!!!!!!! wHAT IS THE OVERALL LEANGTH? LEATHER SHEATHE ? Did it come in a box? What is the blade shape? I aint going to sleep until you post a picture!!

I tried to post one of the pictures that I just took but my 5MB pic wouldn't upload. However the pics are on Ebay if you want a sneak peek. I have to figure out how to dumb down my camers so my pics will upload. I think my camera is a 3% model. You have to be 3% smarter than the camera to make it work right.

Those fixed blades are cool!
They look like a remake of the old Outers pattern that was so popular that most companies made them 50+ years ago. I love the pattern.

These look a lot like a Tested Case, Schatt & Morgan and a few colonial and imperial sheath knives I have had and currently do have. seems like a pretty solid knife to me!

Some thing is telling me I will be adding a YELLOW one to my colection soon.....

I am going to start saving my money of it now....

Every time I see a Yellow handled, I look for you Ken. I was in a pawn shop yesterday and there was a yellow handle knife (I think it was China, and I was busy looking at a '73 Case, which I bought), so didn't really pay attention to the brand on the yellow handle. But anyway to finish this story up, there was man standing pretty close behind me and I turned around and asked if his name was Ken.

I knew he had a devious reason to inform us so often of his birth date. I've been putting quarters in the gumball machine for a week now, trying to get a present for him.

After all the Ballyhoo about a fixed blade, I find myself wanting more when I saw the knife. I expect it is more 1095 - how about some D2 or 52100, a fixed blade, here is where they should do something different, looks like a Appalachian Bowie to me, which makes since. IIRC that is the look that they were after.

I know you've probably seen the fixed blade from (Canal Street Cutlery) CSC, an impressive 8 inch drop point, it is a tough knife for GEC to beat, designed and heat treated top notch D2 steel by D'Holder (hall of famer I think). I do not think I will be buying one of these, I have about 200 lbs of 1095 in the shop, maybe 50 more lbs of 1080 amongst many other miscellaneous steels, likely a little bit of everything else. Anyhow, this is a rather simple knife to make, lets see where the price falls in.

Times change and it's looking like the trapper pattern is the only one that has met or exceeded expectations, IMO. While that is a nice fixed blade there are reasons why it died out in favor of current offering such as the Loveless style drop point that CSC has adopted in D2, and I like the Canal Street knife, a lot. It's likely just quite simply that they do not have the experiece to work with D2.

I think a 7 inch fixed blade is just fine, that's really big enough to dress out anything in America, except bear you may want an axe or hatchet. They get in the mud a bit and you will need 3 knives and a hatchet, been there done that.

I just love the Trapper patterns they did, the Cuban and this fixed blade leave me feeling like I want something.

Anyhow, this is a rather simple knife to make, lets see where the price falls in.

I'm curious myself. These fixed blades are larger than a typical folder and therefore require more materials. But there are only five pieces to asseble and no moving parts. The savings in labor should far outweigh the cost of the additional materials, so in my mind these fixed blades should be priced less than the GEC folders. But what the heck do I know...

I agree. The knife is a simple pattern & should not be very expensive.
That was one of the main attractions to the old Outers pattern. It was simple, inexpensive, yet was knife enough for any game dressing or camp chores one might have.

Those are pretty nice knives guys, and I do see the resembelance to the imperials as well Uticas of past. Dale I am wondering if you have the 1941 Imperial catalog and if so if there are any switchblade cuts in the catalog. I should have some other vintage fixed blade adds around should you be looking for anything of note. Thanks
