All About Pocket Knives

Could anybody give me any info on this old schrade knife? It only had one blade when I procured it and would like as much info as possible.

Yeah I tried twice lol that was my next question.

I thought that might be the case - looks like you've figured it out. Now, what is the closed length, and can you post an in-focus close up of the stamp on the blade? That will aid in determining approximate age of the knife.

The only blade on it when I got it was the small blade and it had no stamps on it.and the length from out side edge to outside edge of the bolsters is 3 and half inches.

I'm no Schrade expert but with that info and pictures some of the Schrade gurus here will be able to ID it (my guess is an 825 pattern - we'll see if I'm even close! ). Meantime can find a lot of Schrade info here viewforum.php?f=64.

Measure the handle of the knife, and be sure that you are accurate to the 1/16th of an inch.
That will give us a clue as to the model number.
If it is an 825 it would be 3 - 9/16", just a hair over 3-1/2 inches in length.
There were several variations of blades on that particular frame oh, so there were several variations made that were the same size but we're different model numbers. Many of the models were discontinued in the 1950s and from the looks of the handles you have they are Delrin and not bone, so we will eliminate the models from the 1950s. However, it is possible that your knife was an 825, 825SS, 895, 896K, or an 899. You will sometimes see the 825RB, that began about 1964 when they were renamed "razor blade stainless."

Looks like a punch blade lying there. If so you have a 1961 to 1986 Delrin handled 899. Would have had two more blades, a slender clip and (a spey? Don't have my ref's in front of me), a stockman pattern.

Good catch Cal, I didn't see the punch blade, one of the disadvantages of reading the forum on a cell phone.
The additional blades in an 899 would be the slim clip and the spey blades.

They only have value if you need those particular parts for another knife. The 825 is one of the most common Open Stock Schrades so it would cost you more to mail the parts then what they're worth. The one exception would be that punch blade if it's in good shape, and even then the value is probably $5 at the maximum. And that's if you find somebody who really needs one to restore another knife.
