Forlorn hope - lost Stock in Vancouver.

Way back in the early Eighties, I lived on Moss Street in Vancouver B.C. I did something dumb that has haunted me ever since.
When we were moving out of that house, which had three rented rooms in the basement, I lost my knife. I’m pretty sure that I handed it to a guy named Al to cut down a box. We never went back and I never saw the knife again. I did see Al a few times over the years, most recently maybe a couple of years ago. He doesn’t remember it. Al had a pretty harsh life, on the streets and having substance issues. He in no way resembles the chubby and healthy 18 year old I still have a pic of.

My hope is that the knife may still be floating around Vancouver. I know, very slight chance, but most people who are down wouldn’t throw away something they can still use.

The knife is a three blade, clip, sheepsfoot and a very small and narrow pen blade. The handles are bark bone. One side is missing the scale and it was replaced with a strip of reddish brown suede, glued on. It has a shield, brass, I think. I’m pretty sure ‘Premium Stock’ was on it and I sort of think it was on the tang rather than the blade. I think it said ‘Sheffield’ too.

The thing is, that was Dad’s knife and I’d had it since I was a kid. I carried it everywhere. I really loved it. When I was very young, I would ask to take it out and use it to carve and ‘camp’ in the backyard. When my parents had a property in Surrey that they were clearing, I spent weeks hacking a one poor sapling until I finally cut it down. I couldn’t have been more than seven. Dad finally stopped asking for it back and it seldom left my pocket.

It looked kind of like this.

except three blades. I guess it was about 2 1/2”-3”.

Pretty slim hope, I know. My hope is that it’s sitting in a pile of old junkers somewhere. I do check all the local swaps. Of course it likely fell down a sewer in 1991! Ya just never know, though, so can you all kindly keep an eye out if you’re anywhere near?

Thanks!

I think we've all lost knives that we look back & wish we could have done things different - the ones with sentimental value always hurt the most. Here's to a Christmas miracle that you find it again ...

"Premier" is the name of a brand of pocket knives imported into Canada beginning after WW II and ending in early 1980's ? (guessing here). The earlier ones were mostly from Germany but some were from Sheffield. Later ones were from Japan. They were all of good quality.
Perhaps your lost knife is a "Premier" brand ?
Might help you in online searching.

I feel your pain. I've told this story before...Back when I was a stupid teenager, I had a bunch of knives that I had gathered together. They were actually decent pieces, although I can't remember them all. One was an original Grohmann skinning knife, and I recall a Remington utility pattern also. Some of these I had got from my dad.

Being a typical teenager, I had a messy room, and one day my mom yelled at me to clean my room. So of course, I went off in a huff and threw away alot of stuff out of my room. Unbeknownst to me, the brown bag I kept my knives in was one of the things I threw away during my tantrum. By the time I realized they were gone, it was too late to get them back.

I carry that weight of being a stupid irrational kid on my shoulders to this day. Especially after throwing away knives that should have been family heirlooms now. I think that guilt is what drives me to "acquire" knives now, a never-ending quest that I will never complete.

It's nice to think that our "lost" knives may be out there somewhere...

I see Sheffield "premium stock knife" marked stockman knives on a regular basis on Ebay. I will keep my eyes out for one for you, but I think they are mostly in the four inch range (4X2.54 CM?). Stay tuned. Oh... and Merry Christmas!

And Merry Christmas to you all!

Just to be clear, yes I do run across Premium Stocks and my fav folder is one, as a matter of fact. It’s just that particular knife that I’m hoping will fall out of Knife Heaven and back into my contrite little mitts!

I do appreciate any offers of EBay hunting but I really doubt it’ll be there. I’m more likely to find it at the binners market or on the pavement with the guys that lurk outside the Red Barn because they can’t get a table inside.

So, while I’m at it, there’s a small fixed blade with the handle replaced by several layers of shiny white string out there too. There may be a jeweled sort of flower thing glued on the pommel. That one got swiped along with a bunch of stuff, mid Nineties, in Burnaby.

Thanks guys! I’m so sorry to hear about the other knives that are out there in the wind. You just never know!
