Hackman Tapio Wirkkala question

Post by Papas-toybox »

Just picked this up in a lot of knives I purchased from an estate and I know nothing about this brand. Can anyone give me some insight and estimated value for it? Total length is 8 1/2 inches with a blade length of 4 inches.

A beautifully crafted puukko style knife. ( I have one too ::tu:: )
Googling the designer will provide images of the many and varied objects he designed. Ebay has many “sold” examples in the $100 - 200+ range. I think the knives were imported by a catalog company called Brookstone in the 70’s.

The knife was designed by T.W. and made by Hackman and is highly sought after by collectors of Finnish & Scandinavian knives. The same design was also made by Helle a knife manufacturer in Norway and it too is very collectible but not to the same degree as the Hackman.
Your knife is used but in good condition with original tip present. The tip can become rounded from less than skillful sharpening. As mentioned above it could get $200 or even a bit more in an ebay auction.
