All About Pocket Knives

Like it said, ugly! This is a ‘for fun’ competition. Show us your battered, bruised, worn and worn out trash queens! I want to see the polar opposite of dainty, shiny, cabinet queens! I want to see knives that make you do this -


This example is my work knife. The pink tape is to remind those guys in metalshop that it’s mine. The clear tape is a somewhat futile effort to keep it in one piece. It gets used to cut inch thick cardboard bins, score pressboard to snap and do a lot of general cutting. Surprisingly, for a made in China cheapie, it sharpens up real well.
Yeah, it’s been dropped a few times..

So, c’mon guys! Beat that!

You might have a winner, there, Zoo; I am reluctant to show my P.O.S. knives for the upcoming trade (When is it?). But I can show you something that I won a prize for, an Ugly Boot Contest. I got a nice windbreaker jacket from a Western clothing store with my 'exhibit.'

Oh, alright; I will show one, but it is not mine; it has been re-listed on ebay for awhile now.

Here is mine:American Shear & Knife Co. down to one VERY small blade. Still cuts though!

I didn’t think I had one to post, but then I remembered this beast. I sold it earlier this year for parts. Looks like someone beat on it w/ a hammer. It’s worse than it looks. The can opener is partially broken and can only be opened w/ a plier. The handle is falling off and the liners are bent all to heck.
Not the ugliest but the ugliest I have ever had.

This is no looker by any means, but I believe I can make it a bit more presentable. I think it's the ugliest I have not counting the POS round table stash.

This ugly one is like a bad penny - been showing up in my searches for weeks now ...

I prefer to call these,"beater" knives rather than ugly because I feel it is a more descriptive term.Most of the knives pictured have been,"beat upon" sometimes unmercifully. I like them because when I look at one I wonder what stories they might tell should they be able to talk.
I have quite a few of them in my accumulation and many are well over a hundred years old.Those are the ones that are special to me. I wonder how they came to be in the condition they are in. Many of them were sharpened until there was literally nothing left to sharpen.To me that says that they were still a valued item rather than something to be merely discarded for something new.
Here are a few of them that while some have broken blades and handles are still functional for their intended purpose.
#1 A.Burch Cutlery Co. horseman's knife.
#2 Alfred & Son Celebrated Cutlery.
#3 Barneria France circa 1850's. Handle has been repaired with what looks like cutler's cement.
#4 Brookes & Crookes smoker's knife.
#5 Cattaraugus sleeveboard jack.
#6 Cattaraugus whittler.
#7 George Woodhead pruner circa 1860's
#8 KA-BAR trapper.
#9 Keen Kutter dogleg jack.
#10 Keen Kutter granddaddy barlow

You know, you could actually make a slingshot out of the back end. Might be kinda cool.

Got this in the 7th grade , 1974 , told the kid setting by me i wanted a knife , he said ill bring ya one in tomorrow for 50 cents , wasnt much , but i thought it was great at the time even with the busted bolster ! Its a colonial .

Multi tool can also be used as a devining rod for dowsing, water witching. Very valuable.
