All About Pocket Knives

Pulled this BOKER 8348 out of the mailbox today.

Good looking knife perhaps holding an interesting history.

I like it.

Handles could be Delrin which if so dates this as no older than early 1960's. Nice serpentine jack. What is closed length ?

Nice one! I'm a big fan of Medium Jacks, but wasn't aware that Boker had done one in the USA era.

Here's mine: I just scored these two USA 9229s off of Etsy for $20 shipped. I already had one, but lost it last year (it's around the house here somewhere, as that's where it was last seen). Most I saw were either expensive or just plain worn out. The 1085 carbon steel Boker used was ideal for a work knife. There is no photo of the mark sides of both knives just the pile sides and stamps. Seller must have taken it, but forgot to upload it.

Forgot to notice that the blades had been re-profiled to fit smaller screws--the one on the right looks like it might just fit a No. 2 Phillips.

Solingen made single blade red bone Boker. 51/8" closed. Excellent F&F. Pull about 8 or 9, using some Quick Release to ease that up a bit.

Great looking knives. I love them old Boker’s. Gonna pack a big old 70’s Solingen jumbo Congress to a family Christmas get together this afternoon. Minus the missing shield of course!

I am waiting for snow to stop during daylight so i can show a few Stag Bokers. One is a 4" fancy Congress that i bought from AGR about 10 years ago. All 4 blades have the tree logo but only master tang is marked: "Heinr Boker&Co'/Baumwek-Solingen/Germany-Alemania". There is no blade etch and nothing to indicate stainless so likely it is carbon steel ?
I had not thought of this before but why is there no blade etch on an upscale Boker folding knife ?
I will post pictures as soon as weather allows.

Two Bokers arrived today. Both are single blade Trappers, one in Smokey Gray Bone the other Red Bone; both are 4". The Red is one of those singular knives where the juncture between the bolster and scales cannot be felt. Does this occur by happenstance or is it a sign of extra attention to detail? I prefer to think it is the latter.

Here is a 4 1/8" stag Boker Congress that i bought from AGRussell about 10 years ago. What i find odd is that there is no blade etch even though this is a 'fancy' knife with threaded bolsters. All blades have a tree logo but only master tang is marked: "Heinr Boker&Co'/Baumwek-Solingen/Germany-Alemania".
Did AGR not like blade etches and so ordered them without ? or ??
I am hoping a Boker collector will comment.
Also shown is a 4" stag Boker Stockman, 4474 which has the standard Boker blade etch.

Edit to add: in this thread Calvin shows the same Congress knife but with jigged bone and it has a blade etch.

Kj, I am a newbie regarding the Boker brand. Until the experienced collectors come along, I'm inclined to think this was an AJ specification. He was most particular in getting what he contracted for. Fine looking knives by the way.

Thanks John. Glad you like it. I like it too. Got a leather slip for it as it will be getting some extra carry time. Boker did a very nice job on the F&F. Am struck by the relatively low cost-a little over $50.

QS, that’s a nice one.

I have two new Bokers to show off. Solingen folding hunter with smooth Appaloosa bone that I got for Christmas, already a little patina from peeling taters. Second, straight from Tongueriver (Cal) this awesome bone handled Boker USA cattle knife. I’m using his pics as I can’t do any better inside.

The cattle knife is some kind of awesome. It’s a hefty little knife, well put together, but crazy thin for its heft.

Colonel, that Appaloosa bone is very handsome. Liking it a lot.

Some nice Bokers on display here. My latest is this 3 5/8" Boker Congress that I picked up at our local fleamarket last weekend. I am assuming that this is of fairly recent manufacture? The handle material must be some kind of reddish acrylic, as the pins can be seen when looking in from the edge.

OC I almost bought that model over the weekend but passed when the seller thought it might be celluloid. But I very much like the stepped bolsters on that model. If I could be sure it was acrylic I would have bought it.

Garry I'm not aware of Boker using any celluloid on their modern production knives. You might want to check with rangerbluedog just to be sure though.

I have heard this stepped bolster design referred to as "waterfall bolsters". I briefly thought the same thing, maybe it is celluloid as this one had a small stain on the master blade above the etch. But the other blades were pristine and the stain removed easily. This was made in the 80s or 90s?
