All About Pocket Knives

This is a family item. According to my mom, it made the trek from Cloverdale to Burnaby when they moved in 1944. So, it's at least that old. I guess it belonged to my grandfather. He left behind a few small tools when he bailed in the Great Surrey Scandal of '44.

I've always loved the thing. The hatchet end sharpens up real nice. You can actually cut small twigs with it and pound carpet tacks!
It is a reasonably plier and wire snip and the screwdriver is fine, of course. Likewise the nail pull.

There are no markings at all. Just this year I finally saw another one, larger but the same, unfortunately unmarked as well

So, after I posted, I remembered that I hadn't shown scale. Darned if there wasn't a carpet tack stuck to its cardboard/duct tape sheath! Lol! That's the top pic

I love those old tools. What do you need done? It will do it. From an age when you didn't have a lot of tools.

STAHL is one company that made these tools. I think this is the same STAHL as WKC Stahl Metallwarenfabrik in Solingen that made ceremonial swords.

STAHL is German for STEEL. I have one of those multitools marked GUSSSTAHL which is German for CAST STEEL. As with the OP's mine has no maker's mark.

Its a box tool. Used to be every thing was shipped in wooden crates. Every store or warehouse had several. Pretty common, but usually they are pretty beat up from being used for jobs other than what they were made for.

A box tool...well, that’s interesting!
I know this thing came from Mom’s family. What’s a bit funny is that the oldest tool I own is from my Dads first job, at a crate factory, in about 1927. It’s a square faced hammer with two claws on the opposite side. Sorry, it’s currently buried in a box. So, the two senior tools I own are both for the same thing, more or less!
