bought this knife as a teenager back in the mid-70's - can't make out much on big blade ( my recollection is at one time could make out WR) and the number on the small blade seems to be either C265 or 0r 6265 - I am not a case collector or really a collector at all. maybe someone could shed some light on this old knife.

If your knife is 3 5/8" long, it might be Case 6285. The handle looks like Greenbone and according to Pocket knife trader's #9 page 41, it is a Doctors- Spear. There is also a picture of a similar knife on page 323 it does show a shield on the mark side.

Stamping "W.R. CASE & SON" was used from approximately 1902-1903. There are several variations including some that also said LITTLE VALLEY, N.Y., some that said BRADFORD, PA. and some that said W.R. CASE & SON CUTLERY CO.

Stamping W.R. CASE & SONS was used from approximately 1905-1915. (In between, approximately 1903-1905, the stamp used was CASE & SON'S. With an apostrophe, and no "W.R."

The 6265 in that era is a swell center pen, not a doctor's knife. Later 6265s are a large folding hunter clasp.

Can you make out any other markings on it?
