All About Pocket Knives

I was wondering what the difference is between the new Buck Slim Hunter knives with synthetic handles and the Buck LT knives, also synthetic. Or for that matter, the older Bucklite models. Just the thickness of the handles? Sent this question to Buck but have not heard back yet. If the handle feels rigid and not flimsy (unlike Buck Rival II), should be a good EDC.

I'm thinking that the 110/112 have Micarta (Brand Name) handles and the others have just regular plastic type handles. I just picked up a used Buck 442 with green plastic handles and I like it. It feels very solid and has a small indentation for your index finger. No blade play either. Well built.

I wouldn't mind trying the Buck LT knife though. Maybe I'll look for one this weekend.

It's just the thickness of the scales between the lt and the slim, not in micarta. As far as new vs old I can't say. Th 4xx series seemed to be a little harder plastic but that's just an observation. It may not be.

OK, so my neighbor got a new 112 slim hunter. The handles are FRN, but very hard and rigid (like Spyderco knives). No liners or blade pivot bushings. Handles feel very solid with no flex when doing moderate cutting (heavy cardboard). The total thickness of the slim version is .42 inch. Thickness of my black Bucklite from 2012 is about .65. Don't have an LT model to compare. The new slim model carries very easy is the pocket for those who like a bigger, stouter blade.

I have a 112 LT and a 112 Slim.
While I like them both, right now I'm carrying the Slim.
It is thinner and I like the pocket clip option.
The red Slim is rock solid- no flex or blade play at all in my example.
The LT is fine but has minor side to side blade play when closed.
Both lock up tight. Both are nice offerings from Buck!

I have a Buck 1112 slim, an 110 LT and an old Bucklite 422 here in front of me. The plastic handles are pretty rigid on all of them, but the blade in the LT is so loose that it wiggles like a ducks arsch. I actually held the handle in place against my work bench and measured the vertical movement in the blade as 5mm at the tip. My 112 LT arrived in about the same condition and I sent it in for a warranty repair. My 30 year old 422 is still quite solid and my 112 Slim is perfect, except that the thumb stud fell off and I put it back with epoxy. The stud is pressed in place, not a threaded fastener. The new Bucks are pretty good knives at a good price, but I think that Buck should up their game.
