All About Pocket Knives

And I'd really like to know.

Here's a 50¢ Carvel Hall steak knife. Or used to be.
Now it's something that's not a steak knife.

I found it at the jotemdown store (my middle daughters great grandpaw called Goodwill and stores like em that, kinda stuck with me).

The tip was gone, other than that it was what it was. Potential.

I've recently got a fascination with engine turning.
And I've always had a thing for camouflage. I wrote half a page about it but saved y'all by deleting it.. Back to the 50¢ knife.

The tip broken, I saw a possible paring knife to use in the kitchen (boys it's some decent steel, it's all a razor).
During the process of reprofiling the tip (with files and whetrocks. I've got a grinder but it's more funner for me thisaway) I had an epiphany. Or a brain fart.

I thought about how Gerber had done the tip on the T&B.
Kill the paring knife, maybe a little skinner for birds and fish and wabbits and squirrels. OH MY!!!! Hehehehe be very very quiet....
So I redirected the entire shebang. It was very uneven from side to side on the grind, so I tried my best to straighten it out.
Plus I took a little bit here and there, making what I'd feel comfortable skinning small game & upland birds.

Added a no slip grip (thisuns gonna be the one that gets the real test.) Shot the camo.,..
I was too late finishing for dove season here, but that don't matter, I may skin a deer with it just because.

Now to make a long story longer,
Let me know what you would've done. Seriously.
I'm just piddling, but I enjoyed every second.

I just zoomed in on the pictures, did I mention I may be blind and this is the first time trying filework? Don't look too close at the jimping, it ain't worth a flip.
And it shows I need some telescopes attached to my eyes.

I ran into a feller that had a bunch of old table knives he had reshaped similar to what you have done. He had made them into different shapes, clip, spear, drop point, wharncliffe, etc..

It looks better in real life than in the pictures. I'll try to take some outside to see if it shows up better.

I don't have a drill press.
I do have a 20v drill.

A short piece of wood dowel, some Emory cloth wrapped around and black compound when it stopped cutting good.

I practiced on a few other knives, the users in the kitchen.
It looks different. I got the idea from a CRKT Slip KISS I got with broken scales ( that one is still on the to do list).
The frame is engine turned and I thought it looked cool.

I posted another in the Gerber thread, the second $6 knife.
I'm still not sure if I'll keep that one. I did it after this on and it came out a good bit better.

Hey, it was something to learn. I enjoy piddling, it's kinda like therapy. When I was a kid, my dad always said that the day you stop learning is the day you start dying.

It may not be much, but it was fun. That's what it's all about for me.
