Case 6249 Vietnam knife

Hi Guys,
I hear the Case 6249 pattern knife referred to as the " Vietnam" knife. How did it it get this name? Nobody in my local knife knew. Just curious as it is my favorite Case pattern, tho not a really popular seller. Thanks.

I got the answer from Shirley Boser, Case Historian. To quote Shirley:
During the Vietnam War, the 6249 Copperhead was a favorite with the American soldiers. It wasn't a military issue to them but was available at all the PX's. Because of this, the Knife got the nickname "Vietnam Jack".

very interesting. the copperhead is another one of my favorite patterns too. heres a couple of mine.....a 1970 and a 65-69. would like to see some of yours if you want to share.

Hi Steve,
I'm just getting started with this pattern and have only a few newer ones but did just acquire one from the 1983 trapper set with long spey instead of pen and it has the new grind blades. Will post some pics when I get a few more interesting ones. Thanks for the reply.

thanks gunsmoke, i love the red bones too. they ve taken over my collection....lol.
jand, i bet the one with new grind blades is nice. the new grind blades werent made but a couple of years i think, 83-84 i believe and are already highly collectible. i used to have a stockman with them but had to cut loose of a few knives and that one was hard to let go.
