Case XX 61048

I have a Case xx 61048 single blade pocket knife that I have a question about. I have no way of putting a picture on right now but I wish I could. Holding the knife to where the shield if facing me and the blade opens to the right, I open the blade and the tang stamp is 61048. On the other side it has Case XX, then 6 dots then U.S.A. The "S" is the lightning bolt type. The shield is oval and has CASE written on it but no circle around the word CASE on the shield. The handles look to me to be brown bone or simulated brown bone (Delrin I'm guessing). I would have thought at first it was a fake but, I bought the knife brand new in the box from my local hardware store in about 1985, the year before my son was born. I just noticed it when I was getting some of my knifes out and oiling them. I have searched on these forums and the internet for info about Case xx pocket knives but, all I could find that sounded like what I have is that Case made a left handed knife. I never knew there was a difference in a right or left hand pocket knife. Could there have been a mix up and a blade for a left hand knife was put on a right hand knife or the blade was stamped on the wrong side of the tang? Maybe someone with knowledge of Case XX can inform me about this knife. Thanks for any help, Duffy.

Jonet143, the nail mark is on the same side as the shield. It looks just like all my other Case xx knifes except it is tang stamped completely oppisite of all my other Case xx knives. Any ideals on it?

useem, I never knew there was a right or left handed pocket knife until now. Holding my knife at me, the same way as the one in the picture under your name, it has the Case xx, then 6 dots under it, then U.S.A. under that, all tang stamped on the blade side that has no shield on the handle. On the side with the shield it has 61048 tang stanped on the blade. I'm stumped on it.

Mine is like that jonet143, only difference is mine has brown bone or delrin handles, it doesn't have the two lightning "S' between the dots, the shield has no circle around the word Case, and the tang stamp is on the other side of the blade. This still has me going nuts trying to figure it out

Well useem, I can now say I've seen a left handed pocket knife.

and a beautiful one at that too.

But I'm still mixed up on the 61048

I don't know, maybe one day I will figure it out.

Thanks for all the help guys. I'm just glad that I have found a place where I can learn new things. This place is

hey duffy, you bought it new. sounds like a mix-up at the factory. a left hand blade with a right hand nail nick. you could contact case historian and maybe get a definitive answer.
