All About Pocket Knives

This knife got my attention, the tang stamp is simply, Q1986. I've not had the opportunity to research how many different makers made these knives.
Am I barking up the right tree thinking this is a Queen?

I believe it is. All of the Queen military knives like that one, that I've seen, were made in 1986.

It would be nice to know how many different makers made these knives. Seems like all I remember seeing were Camillus.

At that time, Queen and Ontario did a lot of stuff for military contracts (TL-29 and "Demo"), as well as Queen prodcing the Ontario Old Hickory folders.

Camillus, Ulster, Imperial, Queen, Schrade, and maybe a few more.

There's a thread about these someplace around here with all the makers listed but you have to read the whole thread since some were omitted by the original author and added later in the thread if I remember correctly. Most were by Camillus, but the first ones with carbon steel blades, brass liners and monel handles were made in 1945 by Kingston. None of these except the early ones are much good, I've worn them out in a couple years of carrying/using them. SAKs are better made in my opinion.

Has anyone heard anything about Queen re-opening? I've been watching for any indication that they will start production again but have seen nothing. Is there still a possibility that they will "restructure" and make a come-back?

I haven't heard a thing about Queen re-opening. I've seen Ryan Daniels at a couple of knife shows since Queen closed. I believe Ryan handled all the Marketing affairs at Queen but he seems to be doing his own thing now.

I think it's been mentioned before somewhere on this forum but I wouldn't know how to find it. You might be able to contact Ryan through Ebay message if you could find out the name of his store.

I just did some searching after I posted my response to you. I found an email address for Ken Daniels of Queen Cutlery. Surprisingly I received an almost immediate reply. Here is what he wrote:

"Sir,
Queen Cutlery is in bankruptcy, does not look like there is going to be anyone out there, that is going to try and save it like I tried."

Needless to say, it's not what I wanted to hear. I guess there is still a faint glimmer of hope that someone will make the attempt.

A fellow collector on another forum suggested that GEC needs to buy the trademark. I don't know if GEC is even interested but that scenario could be a Phoenix rising from the ashes for the Queen lovers out here.

I believe these Col. Coon canoes were made by Queen. Please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Bruno, I checked with SMKW, where I purchased the Col. Coon canoes a few years back, and the lady I spoke to confirmed that they were made by Queen. She told me that the Colonel Coon knives currently offered in their catalog are made in the USA but she wasn't sure who makes them. Any ideas? Bear & Son maybe?

Below is a Robeson canoe and there is no doubt that it was made by Queen....it has the Queen tang stamp on the back side of the master blade.

Could be Bear & Son or even Utica. I'm sure someone here on the forum knows. Why don't you post a question on the Col Coon forum?

If I recall, I posted something similar here after seeing some on eBay and I think it was believed to be Bear.

I've had some varied levels of quality with Bear MGC/Bear & Son products. There is no doubt that they are capable of making some fine knives yet I have some that should never have gotten past the QC department. I believe the Keen Kutter canoes that I have were made by Bear and they are not very well made. I also have a Moore Maker liner lock that was made by Bear that is as fine a knife as you'd ever want. Go figure....

Can anyone tell me with reasonable certainty if these knives were made by Queen for Ka-Bar? I contacted Ka-Bar and the best they could tell me was that it might be Blue Grass Cutlery, Camillus, or Queen. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
