Case Canoe blade style question

Hello all.....
I just picked up this Canoe at the antique store. I am wondering if this is actually a Case blade style from the factory. The big dip in the blade near the bolster looks factory made. I took a QUICK look at blade style pics on the net and I didn't see this style.

SO.... factory made or previous owner modified?

Bolsters kinda beat up but a good cleaning will fix that.

Somebody misused the knife and put a big chip in the blade and then ground the sharp chip into a curve. It is not a factory blade shape.

Yep. I actually saw a friend do the same thing to his knife several years ago. He slid the blade under the edge of a tack and tried to pry it out. When I realized what he was doing I told him not to, but it was too late. He cussed the knife! I told him he was a dumb**s. ::nod::

Some electrician knives have a blade with a similar cut for wire stripping (but yours isn't an electricians knife - or wasn't until the "mod"). OH

Yep, I was hoping that the blade was a factory blade but now I see the light. I am really thinking somebody performed the mod for a purpose they had in mind rather than trying to fix a chipped blade. Folks around here will carry a knife with a chipped blade and not worry about "fixing" it.....LOL. Just a war wound to them....LOL.

It looks like it was done by a Spyderco fan. Many of those have a finger groove (choil maybe?) for the index finger designed for choking up on the blade. Probably not but that's what it looks like.

Here is a pic after I cleaned it up some. Not too bad I don't think.
Now it will take it's place with my other canoes.
