Just an old OT that was nearing the end. Blades would not snap as the backspring was worn down at the pivot point. I dropped the pivot pin. This brought some action back. Backspring are not exactly flush in closed position, but they are close.
Left all age and patina intact, just removing the rust.
With cousins...

SO.... you gonna let me in on your secret recipe for the dye you used on that antler?
(Heee he he.... I have a project a couple of threads down that would sho' be nice with some antiqued scales...)

Mike, I used a yellow dry stain, alcohol soluble. Comes from international luthier supply in Tulsa (from my instrument building days)
Mix in alcohol and soak scales in that.
Alcohol takes it deep then evaporates.
I have used Fiebings leather dye as well, with good success.
I have not tried RIT dye on bone, but have used it on wood. It needs to be finer than what comes in box so I use a mortar and pestle to grind it up, then use with alcohol.

Ahhhhh ha! Never thought about the stains from Luthier's Supply. I have a box full of that same stuff.. I used to hunt down old fiddles and refurbish them. WOW.....Looks like I need to get my stains out and give 'em a try.
