All About Pocket Knives

OK I have another for all of you to comment on ebay # 150174849279. Is this knife an old one or made recently??

I really liked all the commnets on the Case Brothers. It sold for over 300, too much for me.

the cut on that blade looks newer like a newer schatt---queen to me??

Just my opinion. The bone jigging and color does not look like anything I've seen on an NYK knife. The etch looks awfully fuzzy to me also, however, the pictures aren't that clear on my monitor. The stamp looks O.K. to my untrained eye and that shield is very typical for an NYK.

All in all, I have my doubts.

I wish I knew these well enough to discuss pattern or shield correctness.

But...

Just looking at the blade etch...the a's don't match, nor do the r's. The d is missing the upper portion, maybe unusual for a knife that was never carried (seller's words)?

Enough to make me squirm anyway.

If you are thinking of bidding, you might try posting this in Knife Lore. Maybe LT or one or the other guys could give a Yay or Nay to it.

I would say that you can almost never tell a maker by the shield, even though there are exceptions, the Keen Kutter shield, the Case or Kabar shield with their name on it etc.

Even the Remington acorn shield was used by Boker, in a slightly elongated form (actually, I think Boker used it first).

But I would also say that some makers had shields that you can recognize and are somewhat distinctive or else that you could expect to see and that would look right for a certain maker.

A total fake, possible made out of older Utica parts from the Utica factory.
