All About Pocket Knives

No markings on tangs. D L Hill engraved on blade. Large knife, one photo with a scout and coke bottle for comparison. Never seen one like this in my short time period of accumulating knives. Thought maybe it was custom made for someone??? Hopefully someone will be able to help, even with the style? It is still a solid knife with snap and no blade wobble. Thanks for any help you can give.

That is quite a knife. I have never seen one like it.
To me, it looks to be someones one of a kind creation.
A very well thought out outdoors mans knife.
If that is the case, I really admire things such as this.

Not the expert but I am an appreciator and that one looks great. How practical. Fills the hand. Great knife.

A very strange knife indeed! the smallest blade looks like something out of a very early English knife. The next blade is like nothing I have seen save for an English sailor's knife(the can opener blade with the stud on the side). The master blade definitely looks like something home made.
What puzzles me about the knife is that it looks pretty nicely constructed and yet whomever did the lettering on the blade did a horrible job.Looks like a handful!

Thanks Joe, it's a really interesting looking knife, solid knife and I had to have just for that reason.

Exactly what you said. The small blade does appear similar to some Sheffield knives I have. The other one does appear to be factory made as well. I kinda thought the large blade was handmade as you noticed but wasn't for sure.. It's a heavy solid knife though. Thanks for your comments and help.

I believe I have a knife, not the same pattern, but the tang is engraved "Hill". Maybe he made a few knives in his spare time

The master blade looks a lot like some old, circa 1910’s carving / kitchen knives I’ve seen, particularly some old Robeson knives, but I don’t think those blades would be heavy enough to get that tang that’s on the knife unless it was built up with extra layers of steel.

These are not quite like it. I couldn't find the ones that really have that contour on top.

Interesting knife, the lettering on the master blade appears to be similar to the style used on old powder horns or scrimshawed whale tooth that the sailors did back in the early 1800's. Terry

Thanks Terry, Charlie for the comments. The tang on the main blade was definitely made for a pocket knife. It still has half stops and still snaps shut pretty good. The previous owner thinks it was early to mid 1800s, thanks for your comments and help.

Bill, can I see a picture of the spine looking straight down?

I'm interested in seeing the back springs.
