got this here stockman

Post by BatJak »

Howdy,

I went by a local antique/consignment shop and picked up this nice bone handle stockman.
But I got a couple questions for y'all since I'm not a big Boker collector. I've owned a few in my time and always thought they were good quality
just never collected per say.
Anyway, it has BOKER U.S.A. on the tang which puts it between '45 and '83.
But there's no pattern number anywhere.
Steel liners and bolsters... (WW2 era ?)
Also, it doesn't have a shield on the handle.
Anybody got any info on this other than a general date of manufacture?

Thank ya' kindly

Sorry about to poor quality pics...

Sorry I don't have any info for ya, but that is some fine looking bone on that Boker. I have a few Boker USA's that have bone similar to that and I like it alot. ::tu::

Thanks.
The bone looks a lot nicer in-hand than my pics show.
Got a good deal on it and it's hard to pass up a good bone handled stockman.
It'll be a good user. Was sharpened and used but not abused, lots of blade left and real good snap all around.
The steel liners and bolsters plus lack of shield make me think this is pretty darn old.

I think a lot of those old Bokers. I find them to be very fine knives. ::tu::

I can’t answer your questions either, but I’ll agree with the others, it’s a fine old knife. There ain’t a thing wrong with a good old Boker, USA or Solingen. Yours looks like a gooder’un to me.

That one is gonna be at the early end of your estimated dates. I'd say late forties to early fifties.
We can probably nail down a pattern number. What is the overall closed length? If it is 4", it's most likely a 7474 pattern.

Yes, right at 4".
A little google-fu shows a lot of variations of this model but nothing exact, so I reckon I got me a me a fine old piece of cutlery.
It just tickles me pink when I happen on an old knife.

I wouldn't trade this for the most expensivest Benchmade/Spyderco/whatever-ya-got fancy pants tacticool ninja flipper out there. ::sotb::

Pickens is slim out here as far as pocket knives go so I get pretty excited when I find something like this for little money.

Thank ya kindly for the help and comments.
Y'all have a good weekend.

Oh, A while back I picked up an old KA-BAR OLEAN N.Y. yellow cell 4" stockman for a song and dance

I like to tell people that I live smack dab in the middle of some of the best fishing in the world...300 miles in any direction.

Midland, Tx

Located in the southern part of the Llano Estacado and on the edge of the Chihuahuan Desert.

My house is about 15 miles SSE of town.

I'm not in the middle of nowhere but I can see it from my porch.

One of my favorite cattle patterns, JACK KNIFE BEN from UNION STOCK YARDS CHICAGO. Probably made by Napanoch in about 1900.

Some folks don't find that part of the state very beautiful but I am not one of them. Flat it is and dusty and hot but it has its own form of beauty. Lots of rattlers, and lots of oil. We go past there sometimes over to Ft Davis and the State park there to see migrating birds. Thanks. ::tu:: ::tu::
