All About Pocket Knives

I've read on this forum more than once that old knives have a story to tell. That may be true if only we could get them to talk. Here's one that may offer to help.

Another weekend find, that didn't offer anything to a " mint " collector, but sure caught my attention. Neatly carved into the covers were initials, and on opening, a name was engraved on the master blade. At home, and with magnification, I saw that the engraving was done by hand and not with an electric pencil.

I spent about 35 minutes on the internet this afternoon, hopeing to get lucky finding the original owner of this knife. Finding someone never happens so easily, but I keep wishing. When on a roll, I may stay up all night on a search, but this one will wait for another day.

When looking for an individual in the past, you can find dozens or more with the same name, especially if you don't have something to start with, such as the name of a parent or a geograpical location.

You can bet when I'm next in the mood, I will start my search with this Louis Buehler that I found in 1880's Philadelphia. Look at his age and occupation. If only there was a middle initial !

Dale, No matter how much research I do, it will always be just a possible history. It's nice though to have a story that's possible, rather than just imagined, and it's something to do after they're all oiled, waxed, and fondled !

and i thought i was abit odd to think that knives could talk
i just recently won bid on a old german fixed blade , well used , but no markings or anything that would start a trail to follow , i dont have much interest in fixed blades but this one caught my eye for some reason.
when i won bid on it , and it never drew many bids i felt lucky for that , but it was when i got it , i know it may sound afar.....................
but there was something about it when i held it , i contacted seller who told me very little.
just thought i would share..............
