All About Pocket Knives

This Farrier is giving me some trouble - I can not make out the tang stamp at all so I thought I'd ask if anyone knows of this maker or pattern ???

Actually I believe the stamp reads WADE,WINGFIELD,& ROWBOTHAM which is an earlier stamp(1825-1858)according to Goins. I think it leans toward earlier due to the birds-eye rivets which weren't popular after about 1840. If it has one piece liners/bolsters that would pretty much confirm it. Horn handled sportsman's knives aren't anywhere near as prevalent as stag handled ones. Beautiful old knife! As an aside I have a nice 7 day straight razor set with their stamp.

It looks like it may be missing the scissors(not surprising)but still retains the tweezers and splinter pick. I'm curious as to what the function of the tool on the extreme rear of the knife is:if it is hollow it may be some type of leather punch. Any chance we got get a couple views of it?

it is indeed a leather punch, makes great holes for buckles too.

Interestingly there is a butterfly, tortoise shell manicure slipped into the handle too, all original.

I'm beaming .... and it's for sale at the Camillus Collectors show on Aug. 11th.

Welcome Britishink ... Great looking old knife - no doubt K7K nailed the maker as the "Wade" is well worn but it all fits - ... Those old horn handles are really nice and have that classic look too... sounds like a great score at the upcoming show!!!

There's no space for scissors on this one, nothing missing at all.

The bolsters and liners are one piece...

The reason I said that is it appears that there is an opening on the mark side at the extreme rear of the handle. Is there something occupying that spot?

Right in that spot like a butterfly knife only thin tortoise shell scales and the thinnest of blades ...

Thanks for the clarification;I didn't read about the manicure before. Lovely knife!
