So, this beautiful thing appeared in the mail today .... And it is, except it doesn't close fully. A hard stop in the position you see.

Any thoughts? My theory, which seems unlikely, is that the tang is not formed right / is too large. ... there is a lot of fiction when you close it and open, and you can see where the friction and worn on some spots .... Any thoughts?

A lot of blade loss.
File down the kick and it should close.
Just go slowly.

Holy crap. For real? That much blade loss?

What do you mean "the kick?"

And thanks for your help!

original blade profile probably looked something like this. points often get rounded off from lots of or incorrect sharpening

YRM, you just received some advice from one of The Best knife repair craftsman in the country. We are fortunate to have MM as a frequent contributor here, always helping others, so i wanted to post this note of appreciation.

Thanks Muskrat Man. I don't know how to show that like you did from my tablet.

Really didn't have to take off much at all. Here's the start:

And because I just finished setting it up, here's my new container-shop-storage setup.

MuskratMan? He's okay I guess... ::sotb::

Seriously though, Kaleb is as solid a mechanic as you'll find, and I can see his advice worked out well for you!

Your shop/container is a cool idea!

I've been trying to get Kaleb to come to the Indiana knife show and sign autographs for 3 years and still don't have it done. Maybe next year?
