Looks good from where I'm sitting. Maybe your first leather handle but not your first time working leather?

Thanks guys. I appreciate the kind words. You all are a great suport.
It was like nothing I've ever done before. Once compressed the leather is hard as a rock. It's more like wood working than leather work.
Like carving a very hard wood, but the grain goes the wrong way.
I used a 3" Carpenters hand held belt sander. Drum sanders in a drill press, to a lesser extent files and a very sharp Wharncliffe. Not sure it was fun, but it was rewarding.
This particular blade came for free with a nice hard plastic ww2 Navy sheath. I was planning on tossing the blade into the trash, but could not. It was so badly rusted the seller thought it was Damascus! Turned out it is still pretty solid, with some crazy rust lines.
In a weird way I felt a responsibility to preserve it. It's been taunting me for years now, it's a big relief to have it off my to do list.
