All About Pocket Knives

I read somewhere that a group of poeple will get together fund a purchase for knives. I am not quite sure exactly how it works but it sounded interesting to say the least. A group of lets say five people submit $100 each. One takes the five hundred and gets a deal on a selection of knives, Lets say some new Queen S&M's or something like that. Because you buy in numbers, the price is better. Then a list is provided of the knives and you draw numbers for who picks first and second etc. I am sure someone knows way more about this than I do but maybe a group could try this after Christmas, "good buys available" I bet our host may be able to offer some deals too! It is like a lottery but everyone wins. Can someone give more detail to this?????

Yeah that's it. Anyone interested in something like this????

I would be interested, would there also be a minimum or maximum to spend, any other ideas out there?

Count me in please! I've thought about suggesting something like this for a while now. I'd be glad to do what I can to get a deal on some great knives.

I really don't know how to do this. If someone wants to take the lead I would gladly help, or if someone could point me in a direction to learn how to do this I would also. sounds like fun.

I'm going to work on putting together some details about this if everyone is o.k. with me doing that to get the ball rolling. Hopefully, I'll have something to present in a couple days...

I've been thinking about this a little. Hows about something like this...

I put together a list of knives to choose from (say 100 knives with a price of $100 or less) I'll include the price for each knife (the prices will be right too.. I won't mark them up $.01).

Everyone who wants to participate will select one knife from the list that they really want to check out.

Once everyone selects a knife, we add the price of the selected knives together and then divided it by the number of participants.
(if there are 10 participants, and the cost of the knives in total is $750, everyone would owe $75) The maximum you could ever owe would be $100, but you would have to be prepared to pay up to $100. You could pay with a check or paypal to AAPK.

Next we pass them around so that everyone can see and examine each knife (say we get 1 week for looking them over).

After everyone has had a chance to see each knife, we have a drawing to order the participants from 1 to whatever.
The person who is #1 will get to choose one of the knives to keep. #2 will select next and etc. until the knives are gone and everyone has a new knife...


I would be willing to obtain addresses and devise a shipping schedule to make the passaround as smooth and least costly as possible.

I used the $100 figure just for simplicity. If that is too high, maybe we could do $50 or $75...?

These details are from a recent brainstorming session. If it's a lousy plan, please say so. If anyone has a better plan or ideas for improving this one, please speak up about that as well.

I participated in the Round Table over at another forum. Its real simple and worked well. Keeping it simple is always good.

One person did have the job of appointing the names thru his own draw.


Select a price range ($35-$40 worth) although some were quite generous
*List names
*Leader assigned names per some drawing
*Each person got a name and address.
*You recieved a knife from someone who got your name, but you sent a knife to the name you received

I sent a trapper SFO value ($75)
received two yellow handle Case knifes

If you know the person you can send him what you think he would like. Its a fun way to trade a knife you dont really like in your collection, and hopefully get one someone knows you would like. It was fun to me....and simple.

Not having to swap money is always good for a simple friendly swap I think. Either way I would be interested

I have read the few comments on this topic of "passaround" as its been dubbed here and I must admit the concept is a workable one. There could be legal ramifications if all of the people involved aren't on the same page and 100 percent satisfied. I do however know of this exact thing being done in real estate transactions.
