All About Pocket Knives

Ordering some bone from Culpepper to try and match this side.
Any advice on what to use?

Tony that is pocket worn Rogers bone. I don't think you will be able to match that from Culpepper's. I have many bone 72's that have irregularities on one side or the other. If you need the pile side let me know and I will send you one.

Thanks Greg. That is indeed my dilemma. The pile side has a mismatched cover. You have a message incoming.

It is difficult to match Rogers bone precisely especially when you're only doing one side.
When I am doing both sides of a knife and trying to stimulate the look of Rogers bone I usually use Golden root colored bone and then try to find a jigging pattern that comes close to the Rodgers bone I am trying to replicate. A couple of times I have found a jigging pattern that I believe was called in MGC, and it was a pretty fair representation of one of the Rogers jigging patterns. I have not seen MGC bone available in several years now from Culpeper. I usually use a different jigging pattern and sand it down to where it looks worn.
The results aren't perfect, but they're about as close as one can come these days.

Dale, thanks for the info. Always appreciate your input. Do you have another good source of bone other than Culpeper that you could recommend? Don’t give away your secret-stash-honey-hole info!

For jigged colored bone Culpepper has the best selection I have found. If you need plain white bone or dyed camel bone let me know, I have some from another vendor I can share with you.

Thanks for the input. I am going to try the natural with a dye. We will see how that turns out.
