All About Pocket Knives

I'm just wondering if I'm the only one on earth suffering with this affliction. I seem to have one knife in particular that has become my "fondling knife". It has some mystical quality that makes me want to hold it. Not sure whether it's the smooth feel, the sleek lines, the hollow grind of the blade, the positive "snap" upon opening and closing. Or maybe it's the way the bone handles absorb the warmth of my hand that gives it that "come hither" quality. It's too big for an EDC, not of a very practical design for any utilitarian chores, yet.....come evening, I constantly find myself with this knife within reach. And, at some point....the fondling begins!

Is this something I should seek professional help with....or is it a thing that's been diagnosed before?

Have it myself....EDC a Case Redbone peanut...if I'm wating for something...bus...in line...out comes the closed peanut and I start rolling it arounnd in my fingers and rubbing it.

Like a .... what do they call it ... a fretstone?

You symtoms are common and it is easily transmited to others who enjoy pocket knives. I suggest you buy each of us a vintage pocket knife so that you will not feel as though you are all alone with this virus.

NO cure is known, so you have no choice.

Please pay the cashier on the way out. An antique Pennsylvania knife will be suffient pay at this time. OH and take two ebay auctions and call me in the morning.

there is no cure. all you can do is treat the symptoms.

Yes. Mine is a Case Ducks unlimited mini trapper. Even if I do not carry that knife when I put my knife away at the end of the day I have to handle that one. So I went back to carry it again.

Yup, I have the same sickness. The CASE Pocketworn Trappers do it for me. I play with my knife from the minute I wake up until I set it on my night stand at bedtime. It is therapy for me, VERY RELAXING

My EDC, a 34OT that has seen better days, is my usual. Not my favorite, but its always with me so it gets plenty of attention.

Just don't get me started on the "Fondling Lever Guns Syndrome" .

I think the knife-fondling syndrome is a sub-conscious, primordial throwback to the old days when a knife was as familiar and as necessary as your hand.
Modern "civilisation" has changed the circumstances, but the instinctive need to hold a knife is too deeply ingrained, and surfaces more readily in those of us who are in closer touch with our ancestral, pioneering spirit of self-reliance.
Is it any wonder that knives, like self-reliance, are becoming the targets of that same modern "civilisation"?

Does it matter if it is done in the pocket or out of the pocket?
