Case and Genco the same?

Postby Jacknifeben » Thu Jun 14, 2018 2:16 am

I bought a knife and hatchet in a sheath that was stamped CASE and when I took the hatchet out and took the blade off of the handle they both were stamped Genco. What happened?

Many people, including myself, carry knives and multitools in sheaths not branded with the same company as the knife.

However, Genco is related to Case. Case bought them out in 1935. I think it's plausible to say that's the original, and proper sheath.

Wow, that's very interesting to me. I have never heard of Genco until I read this. I hope some more guys chime in on this as I'd like to get more information on this Genco brand. Just about anything related to WR Case & Sons is of interest.

Wasn't "Clauss" also related to Case back in the day? ::shrug::

Thanks for the help. I had quite a surprise when I found the GENCO stamped on the knife blade and the hatchet. Probably not worth as much as with the CASE TESTED XX stamp?

I would say that's accurate. Even though it's probably a good product, you know as well as I do that sometimes the "name" is everything.

CASE used the Genco trademark from 35to 65

And to veer off subject slightly CASE used many names on their razors

Can you post photos? Genco was a razor manufacturer (there is a GENCO Razor display case on Ebay right now)...but I have never seen any knife marked Genco.

Case on the button and GENCO on the blade and axe.

I had completely forgotten that I had posted pics of a Genco marked pocket knife a few years ago.

It would appear that Case made some knife-axe sets for Genco back in the day, or made them for sale by Case as a separately branded product line.

I would consider this to be a rare and unusual knife-axe set. Clearly made by Case but with Genco trademark stamp. It would be of high interest to a collector of Case fixed blades due to the unusual markings. Hard to say whether the value would be higher than for a Case stamped set. But IMO at least equal.

As to the Case stamp on the sheath button, there is no way to tell whether that sheath is original to the set. It may have been swapped out, or possibly Case made the knife/axe marked Genco but supplied them with Case marked sheaths.

Thanks for the reply. Probably put it on eBay and see if anyone wants it. I don,t collect Case knives but I do have your book. Very good reference book.
