All About Pocket Knives

I was hoping to find some elephant ivory or mammoth ivory to rescale some knives. Anyone know where I can look?

I was also looking for some nice sambar stag or elk stag.

Any help would be appreciated!

Eli stag can be had at your local pet store or feed store in the dog chew section, $6-$9 per piece

Five years ago, I bought two slabs of pre-ban elephant ivory, 1/8"-1"-3" from Boone Trading Co. in Brinnon, WA for $30. Wallace Rockwell put it on a Camillus 1047 (Scout version of the 72) for me.

Jerry, that one is a beaut. A little common feller dressed up in the kings finest.

Thanks Floyd. At the same time Wallace did the 1047 for me, he did a 72 in Gold Lip Pearl. The man does excellent work. AAPK member Damon Soileau did the engraving on the bolsters.

I had not thought of 72's being fancy until I saw those two. Special knives.

Given the tools, talent, proper materials and a little bit of imagination, I think you can spiff up any knife.

In addition to the two sources Tony mentioned you can also Google Jantz Supply for mammoth ivory and stag. You have to look at it online, instead of their printed catalog, because each piece is unique and listed individually. Also Culpepper, AKA knifehandles.com usually has some decent stag available, as well as elk, water buffalo horn and often mammoth ivory.

A lot of the companies that specializing knifemaking supplies carry handle material from time to time even if they don't have it on a regular basis. You might try Tru Grit, K&G Supply, Texas Knifemakers Supply. I am sure there are others that I'm forgetting but those are probably the main ones.
Not all of the smaller companies will have a large selection all the time, but often you can find nice pieces at a better price.
