All About Pocket Knives

One of the knives I received from Berryb in the POS exchange is this Shapleigh Diamond Edge cattle knife, DE1930. It is not a bad old knife, except for the broken master blade and the chunk of bone missing from the mark side handle. I realize that finding a blade may not be realistic, so I will probably make a new one from 1095. Problem is, what did the original look like? Probably a spear or a clip for sure, but has anyone got one of these or a picture of the original blade? I found a couple of pictures of old Shapleigh cattle knives, but they differ in having a spear blade with the long pull. As you can see in my photo, there is enough blade left to show that this one did not have a blade with a long pull, which in the pictures I have seen goes almost back to the shoulder of the blade. Another thing I was wondering about is if any of you knife mechanics have ever repaired a broken bone handle such as this using Acraglass? I would like to try the Acraglass repair method as shown in some of the knife repair books I have. Or maybe there is a better way. Any words of wisdom?

Mine is 3 1/2" closed length and it is just like the one in your bottom photo. That tells me what I need to know, it is a big clip blade with a long but not full length pull.

I finally got this done. Fixed the broken bone with Acraglas. Made a new clip blade like the one in Muskrat mans picture, file jig in action. Cutting the pull with Dremel tool. Re dyed the bone to match everything closer, not quite exact, but close. Now it is in my pocket.

Oh yeah.... VERY nice. That is a nice repair job.
