All About Pocket Knives

Hi Gang.

A friend of a friend has inherited some knives and brought them to me for a going over. I am not a fixed blade person at all but I was hoping you folks could give me a fair idea of value so that they won't get taken when they liquidate.

Here is the first batch. Believe me, it will get much better from here on

Mora H J Eriksson hardwood handle - used and has been sharpened

Pal RH-50 Stacked leather handle - has been used and sharpened

Marbles Fieldcraft - Stacked leather handle - wood or bakelite butt cap - has been used and sharpened

Puma Hunter's Pal - THICK Stag - near mint

The PAL is fairly common around here $30.00 to $60.00 used normally.
I started to give you an idea on the Marbles, thinking it might be newer but it isn't so will let someone else who knows them quote you. The other two would be a guess so I won't say anything.
I'd ask ED about the Mora.

Case hunting knife - Stag - CASE tangstamp (is this a 1940-1965 mfg date?) No pattern number on reverse - sharpened and used

Case Stag Hunting set - M5F and 516-5 pattern - unsharpened and unused - near mint -Case XX USA tangstamps

Case Stag Knife-Ax Combo - Blades unused and unsharpened - near mint - Bolsters have some storage wear - Sheath is in superb condition

Last batch.

Lile L2 - "Dotted" Lile knife - Micarta handle - near mint - unused and unsharpened - Lile price guide from 1993 shows $160

Randall Model 3, 6 inch - Stag - Engraved with owner's name on blade reverse - used and sharpened

Last and not least my favorite of the bunch

Randall Model 24 - unused and unsharpened - near mint - looks to be a maple handle - older style

The Guardian was made in the late 70's and the handle is paper micarta (old yellow) it was originally white and it yellow's with age. The sheath is a rubber band style and is highly sought after. Nice group of knives, I wouldn't mind owning them.

Boy, you could have fooled me on that Guardian. I am used to seeing the canvas micarta but this look so much like wood I didn't even think about anything else.

The lady in question will want to sell some or all of them. She may want to keep the big Randall since it was personalized for her father. She will probably be taking them all to the next knife show here in central Arkansas that she can get too.

I will convey the info to her.

All of the prices you have been quoted are within reason. There is a catch though. A dealer at a gun and knife show is going to want at least a xx%
discount. The only way to realize the true prices is to sell to a collector or
someone not wishing to profit. It's my belief that the prices on the Randall Mades are more than fair. An idea if Knifekid is interested then you act as go between. Show the lady the prices and tell her who he is and put them together. She will not get the money at a show. Of course this is all IMO.
Should she decide to go to show anyway, you need to tell her that a margin for profit should be considered.

Yeah I realize an offer from a dealer would be less than an offer from a collector and will advise her of that. She just wanted me to give her a hine about the value. My guess would be that a dealer would probably offer 30% to 50% less than they would ask for it.
