Case Tested XX 5394LP Gunboat Canoe

Made a new master blade for this Heirloom "Tested", aged it a touch so it didn't look so out of place. Really pleased with how this one turned out. Tang Stamped with my maker mark. These are really fun to do, very rewarding to bring back someone's family heirloom that was so close to the brink.

I should have asked too, how did you "age" the new blade?

Just gun cold blue, get it nice and dark, then rub most of it off with #0000 steel wool, then reapply, then rub it nearly off again but in a different direction and repeat. Then oil well once you get the look you're after. This gives it a smooth grey patina, there are other more convincing methods but this is quick, clean and gives it the look without going through all the hoops and downtime to add deeper peppering and random spots and for the most part really isn't necessary unless you are intentionally trying to deceive IMO.
Vinegar works well also and if the parts are submerged in it while boiling they can even turn completely black. I have had some issues in the past with straight razor blades developing cracks when exposed to vinegar for extended periods of time. I think it has something to do with how hard the steel is tempered. It doesn't smell the best though
