Hey Guys, this may sound silly, in fact, I know it does, but can you humor me on this one? Did Schrade make this into the blade of an LB3
or is it a chip on the spine side of the tip? I have never seen a chip like this, and the fella I sold it to thinks I tried to get one by him.
Can you help me out with this one?
Is this a chip or by design?

Looks like a flaw in the blade to me.

Pretty sure is wasn't made that way, like Orvet said a flaw in the metal and it was miss used and broke a piece off? Just a guess however. Terry
If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

Maybe the metallurgy was off and with some stress applied it chipped. In any event it is a defect.

I purchased a Gerber Mark II for next to nothing due to a chip on the wide portion of the blade.
Using a slim tapered serrated edge sharpener I blended a set of serrations for just over an inch along the swell of the dagger. To a person not familiar with knives it looked as if it may have been done on purpose.
Broken tips can be ground and filed until the curves all match once again, or, as looks to be the case here, it can be gracefully done even if the repair is not an exact match.

I've twice used a diamond rod to restore broken tip blades, not to an acute angle, but something that looks like a tip. Much depends on how large the chip is. I did this for a friend whose favorite knife, a Gerber Applegate-Fairbairn fixed blade, had chipped. He was very happy with the fix then a couple of weeks later he lost it by leaving it in a Las Vegas hotel. So, its true. Things do stay in Vegas.
