All About Pocket Knives

I don't know how the name became "Stiddy" from steady rest, which is the traditional name. I guess some local (where?) pronunciation. Anyway, here are two cutler's anvils or stiddys.
The old one is from an unknown closed factory, which I bought a number of years ago when few were watching on ebay.
The other is from a batch a machinist/knifemaker friend made, inspired by the old one. It is T-1 steel, blued for appearance.

I'm the proud owner of a new cutler stiddy!.....been looking for one for a couple of years. One of our members had some made up and has them for sale over in the knife repair section. Glad I stumbled on it.....

Now all I have to do is learn how to repair pocket knives

very nice anvils. unk, you have the book and the hammer. all you need is project knives. i have seen anvils shapped out of 10 inch sections of railroad rails.

That's as cheap as you'll find one in the internet. The quality is very good too

I think the machine shop built ones usually go in the neighborhood of $300 plus (if you can find one - they are scarce as hen's teeth). So $150 - $165 is about half price.

The railroad rail ones usually go for $100 to $125, if someone makes it for you.

Of course, you can save even more by making it yourself, provided you have something that can cut through a railroad rail.

I've got a cute little OLD anvil and have been thinking of taking it down to my buddy's Bridgeport Mill and working some magic on the heel of that old thing. It isn't worth a lot as it is, and it just might come in handy.

I was trying to explain it to a buddy who doe's some machine work and used your pics to explain it, hope you're not mad.

If you look in the knifemakers swap forum I am selling them for $150.00 shipped, I have to list them on ebay higher to cover the fees.
