All About Pocket Knives

Here's a true story for you.
One afternoon after school I was waiting on the sidewalk of a city street to be picked up when I spied a caterpillar begin to painstakingly and laboriously cross the road from the far curb.
With each passing car he managed to just clear the path of the wheels until, miracle of miracles, after what seemed like an eternity, he reached the other curb.
Little did I know that his agonizing progress was also witnessed by a bird perched on the eave above my head which, on seeing him clear the traffic after cheating death a thousand times with each passing wheel, immediately swooped down in front of me and snapped up the caterpillar.
I'm absolutely convinced there is a lesson to be learned here but, after more than fifty years, I'm still trying to figure out what it is, and until I do, that caterpillar will continue to haunt me to my dying day.

I think I have found my lesson. Fits perfectly and so simple.
The bird's time will come too and so will mine and it doesn't matter if you cheated death a thousand times before (maybe that's why I didn't think of it before )

On reflection I suppose I'm what you might call "caterpillar ready" which essentially means 'focus, focus, focus'.

The focus part is right on,,,, the way I sypher it edge...you labor hard,
all day, week, month, year, and just when you think you got er licked,
Bamm, your life or the one closes to you is gone , just like that,
so when you think you have reached the other side of your labors,
dot not forget the folk's who help you get there, and appreciate every minute
and continue to try your best for yourself and all folk's you meet in general

Closing in on the end of days for my stay on Earth. I remember thinking "This is not a good time" during my first heart attack. Then I reflected, "There is never a good time."
If everyone is special, no one is special, "no good time" includes the corollary, "no bad time".
So getting taken immediately after surviving against all odds is spiritually no different than dying in bed. I hold to that and it gives comfort.

True, when you're gone from here, you're gone here. But do you know where you'll be going?
