I have A Remington Electricians Knife With a Weak Etch to the Blade , Is it Possible to Re-Ink The Etching , And if so by What means was this Accomplished Thank You , KC

Interesting question. I've never heard of anyone doing it, so I'll be interested to see what people say.

You would have to make a stencil or have one made that is an exact match to the original. A commercial stencil maker probably wouldn't make it because of licensing issues.

I think you probably would spend far more to etch the knife than it would cost to replace it!

There are fake knives which have a blade etch to match the original so there is a way to do it. In addition to getting services of a stencil maker, likely an original etch can be scanned and reproduced using computer technology.

Jmo, I think you would decrease the value of your knife if you put a non factory etch back on it. When I see a re-etch it makes me question how much more of the knife has been messed with. Again, only my opinion.
To me the etch on your blade is still a very desireable amount of etch. Nice knife.

I suspect it would be far easier to completely remove the existing etch and then apply a new etch from a new stencil. That would eliminate the issue of needing the new etch to exactly match the original etch.

I also think doing this would be a huge mistake and would decrease the value and collector appeal of the knife. I would only do it if you had already done other major restoration work to the knife, like a rehandle.

I agree with the last two posts; I would leave the knife as is so that I had an honest old knife, not something tampered with.
I think the point was well-made about three etch; when I see a knife that has been re-etched or anything else on a knife that has been redone that makes me question everything about the knife.
I wonder what’s original and what’s not, and that’s a knife that I will usually pass over and not buy, especially if I find a more worn knife that I know is 100% genuine.

Ditto what Keith said,that is a respectable etch on your knife. The only thing you would do is de-value it,by messing with it.

Ditto with all of the above plus I would add that a new etch on a nice HOK would simply look out of place. Rather like a nice used vintage knife that has had the blades polished to look brand new. Lipstick on a pig.

Thanks espn77 , There is an original Mailing Box With a 4cent Stamp the knife Lives in , To Go with it , Perhaps I am reaching for to much on this Knife,

Thank You KJ , TFL ,Roger ,Dennis ,Wayne, Mike , , Apparently I Will No Longer Look to Improve Or Alter the Exiting Knife as it Seems out of Bounds with you Fellow Collectors , It Will remain as is , Which is Rather Nice Anyway , Since there is no magic Ectching Paint I could Just Smear on and be done with it ,, Just And after thought While , It Does However Bring about my Interest In Etches & How they were Made Back in the Day , Cheers KC Authentic , Master does not snap in Closing , Very Tight For some reason ( Perhaps from Torque on the screw driver at some Point ) ,Screw Driver does What is supposed to do however ,,

If the etch is a deep etch, I described a process that I have successfully used to refurbish a deep etch in my very first post back in January 2016. The thread was just titled "Question." Not really sure how to link to it for you.

If the etch is real shallow, or just surface printed on the blade, the process won't work. It works best on the deep etchs used in older knives.
