All About Pocket Knives

I have a really nice Parker-Edwards gnarly stag handled trapper that I really like, but it has one very irritating feature that I just can't seem to live with. The main blade has what I have decided is a rough spot on the tang where the main spring makes contact, about mid-point on opening or closing. I've sat in front of the T.V. for over a week now, opening and closing the thing, hundreds if not thousands of times, hoping that it would "wear in". Didn't happen. I tried to file it down with a very small machinist's file, but the blade is so hard, the file slides off it.

So....does anyone have a solution? I was thinking of maybe taking some fine lapping compound and putting it in the area, then working it back and forth, but I had second thoughts....thinking I might be doing more harm than good.

I think I'd try the lapping- valve grinding compound. Just go easy with it and be sure to wash it all out after you're done.
