All About Pocket Knives

Check this one out and let me know what you think. This seller seems to make headlines on this board a lot. Not sure what he's talking about when he references "Page #4." The Case Classic book by Parker and Penley, page 132 shows the XXX as one of 500 made in 1991. The tang stamps do not match the ones on the Ebay listing. I would appreciate your feedback.

He's referring to the Case Classic book by Mr. Jim Parker, "Case Classics Best In The Long Haul". It's strictly info on how many Case Classics were made and prices. Some Case Classics are not even in the book, and can be researched by the Case Classics founder John Adams. All of the prices in the book and the updated value guide are inflated and unrealistic. The Gunboat looks legit however, I doubt it will bring more than $275-$300. But you never know with Mr. DD, he has his ways.

If you look carefully at the COA in my opinion it appears to be copied, and not original. If that's the case, the COA is worthless. Mr. DD tends to adlib to the extreme in his listings. Don't be surprised if casechaser1 continues to bump up the price when some poor idiot just has to have it.

imo the hidden bidder concept is made to order for shill bidding.

Forensic Jim, Thanks for your response. I'm referring to the same book, "Case Classics, Best in the Long Haul," but I don't see anything about a Gunboat XXX on page 4. Is this knife listed anywhere else besides page 132? I just noticed a possible mistake in the book. It lists knife "E" as the XXX, but knife "F" is the only one with the XXX stamp on the front main blade. Perhaps this is the one DD is referring to.

I don't know what he's referring to. I know the Gunboat was produced in the XXX stamp, and aren't that rare.

I don't really know the knife but the comments in his description look like Robin Williams or another worthy comedian may have wrote it.

I think may be true for just about anything. In 200 years $3,000.00 may be low.

He is referring to page 4 of the value guide; it’s a supplement to the Long Haul book, that supplement was put out in 2001. 500 is not rare by any stretch, unless you are referring to women, only 500 of them could be a problem.
The triple X is a clever marketing tool that added a little pizzazz to several patterns already produced. There were no changes to steel composition or manufacturing techniques, simply a new tang stamp. Sought after by collectors they will bring a modest premium.

Some good ol DD advertising, this guy is outrageous!

Not a fake. Had one myself. Sold for $434.00 in March and believe me it was not shilled. The COA looks a little faded. It is item F in the book. There are alot of errors in the book and also on the factory COA's as well.

Hubby and I call DD the PT Barnum of the knife world.
