Backsprings

Another canoe question: I own three. All are 70s knives and all have a single backsprings. I've seen newer ones with two backsprings. I'm sure this is easier to make but it thickens things up. When did this start?

The first year for the two-spring canoe was 1985 - that was the "transition" year - you will find both the older single spring version and the new two spring version made that year. All made 1986 to present are the new two-spring style.
