All About Pocket Knives

I bought this fixed blade Case knife about 1971 in a hardware store that was going out of business. The tang stamp indicates 1940 - 1965 ("J" stamping). It is a very small hunter/skinner but it has no pattern number. It is 7" overall length and the saber blade is 3 3/4 " with a fuller groove and thumb notches on top of the blade at the tang. Due to its small size I am guessing that it is some kind of youth knife. It has Stag handles with an aluminum bird's beak pommel. It is like new, never carried, used or sharpened. It was stored in the case for many years and the sheath did take a beating. I believe it CV steel.

Any idea what the pattern number is?

Looks like a 557 SAB according to Sargents 7th edition

The blade shape is very close to my 2000 Case small slabside hunter.

I finally got this copied from sargents. I think it is the one on the right end.

Is the fuller on the nonmark side of the blade the same as the mark side? Maybe the pics are playing tricks. Just asking that's all, nice blade. Mike

The fuller groove is on both sides.
