All About Pocket Knives

I know that there are collectors that just don't like Frost, but the Frost that were made in the 1980's the quality back then has got to be better than today's Knives, years 2000 an on into now. Same as true for the Parker Cutlery. Any one please chime in

I don't think Frost made the earlier knives, they were contracted from other mfrs.

If you read the posts in the referenced link, Queen is mentioned as well as anonymous Japanese makers. I had an early Frost that was marked Japan. It was similar to the Parkers made around the same timeframe. There's nothing wrong with them but they seem to be missing something intangible. There was a thread a while back that described it as "soul".

This is an interesting muskrat a friend gave me several years ago. One blade is marked 1978-3 and Schrade under it. The opposite side is stamped Parker-Frost, the eagle emblem, and USA/ the shield also has the eagle emblem and Parker Frost. It has jigged delrin handles and has good snap. A well made knife by Schrade and I suppose made in 1978. Terry

Ha! That reminds me of an old Mercury sedan my cousin had. Half the trim work said Ford Granada and the other half said Mercury Monarch. We used to joke that her car must have been made on a Morning morning after a weekend of partying in Detroit...

I recall some of the first knives I ever bought in the early 90's were made in Japan Frost Cutlery knives from the SMKW catalog ... they were decent quality serviceable knives, but don't recall them being anything special to be honest.

frost cutlery, the older knives are great, i have a few early frost knives and they hold up like bucks hold up, i paint for a living and use knives for cutting plastic tape and other simple stuff, i don't like the "gas station" knives but i will buy an old frost at the flea market to use and rarely need to sharpen, i picked up a large and small frost copy of the barry wood mk1 both seem to have been bought and put away, i been searching for some sort of history of these swing lock knives and wish they were real mk1 knives but unfortunately i can't find a thing about them, does anyone have any idea about these knives? when they were made and by who???

I have 4 of the 1978 Schrade-mades and they are all very tight and nicely finished. .
1 + 2: 1978-4 "Johnny Muskrats"
3: 1978-3 "Mink----"
4: 1978-5 "Little Bandit" single blade w/liner lock. J.O'.

Don't know when it was made, I found a balisong on the side of the road in late 80's to early 90's I'm thinking, it resides in a tool tray in my ole storage building ie old chick'in house, I believe that the metal in the blade will stand up to any stainless steel blade I have.
