All About Pocket Knives

Hi all!

New to the forum and I hope I'm posting this to the right place. My grandfather passed a few years ago and left me a beautiful collection of pocket knives that I, unfortunately, know nothing about. I was hoping you all could help me with some info as to age, general info, and value. I've attached a sample of one below. They have different engravings and there are many of them but they're all in mint condition in these sleeves and wrapped in paper. Let me know what you know! Glad I found this resource!

Edit: I should add that they're at least from the 70s...my grandfather acquired them then. Don't know much more beyond that. Also have some Queen Steel knives but not as many.

to AAPK Ryan! Henckels is not one of my strong points but we have several members that are. I'm sure one will stop by before long. Are most of the knives similar to that one As in the small gentleman's genre.

Thanks! Yes most of them are similar...just different scenes on them.

Are you planning on selling them? I'm an avid collector and I think the one you posted is amazing. If you're thinking of selling I'll do the research and share my findings with you and we can come to an agreed price.

Here’s a similar one on E-bay. It might give you an approximate idea of its value.

There are about 80 of them. I’d like to hang onto a couple of each but will likely sell most of them. Let me know what you find! Thanks for the kind words!

Sure, if you can find someone who’s interested in that style of knife. Since most of yours are new, some still in the wrapper, you can expect to extract a slight premium.
But in the grand scheme of things, they’re worth what someone is willing to pay for them. You can either sell them as a group or individually.
You could sell them on E-Bay or create a storefront here on AAPK (or do both!)

The metal handled Henckel's Gent's knife are not worth much. Very people collect Henckels and even fewer are interested in the Gent's knives.
The important date for Henckels is 1960. Henckels has not made a folding knife since 1960. Henckels made knives are much more collectible than the post 1960 contract knives.
I have 50-75 metal handled Henckel's Gent's knives, most being pre 1960 Henckels made. I have sent some of them to a USA ebay knife seller to list for me. Opening Bid $9.99 for one week, often gets zero bidding.
It does not matter how well made or how expensive a knife originally was, today's price is based 100% on how many people might want it vs. how many are available.
People SHOULD start collecting them. 100 yr old Solingen cutlery was almost up to 100 yr old Sheffield cutlery, and they cost a fraction of the price.
