Need help identifying case cheetah

I know the one is 65-69, USA no dots. The other has 8 visible dots, and looks like there is one or two hidden under the guard can any experts shed some light on how to determine whether it is 9 or 10 dot? also a ballpark figure would be nice. They have been kept well oiled and are virtually mint apart from one or two tiny specks on the spine of blade and/or the locking bar.

Sorry for the poor pictures, I'm kinda excited.

Kaleb, I'm not certain but I would think it is a 1972 8 dot. Both are great looking knives. ::tu:: ::tu:: ::tu::

Nice pair of knives! The dotted knife is either an eight or nine dot, most likey an eight like Jim said. In near mint condition it should bring 100.00-125.00.

Look at the pattern number on the USA. Let us know exactly how it's stamped, that can make a big difference in price.

With regard to the Case Cheetahs and the dots I know that the ten dot Stag Cheetah is suppsosed to be really rare but I was told that the ten dots are different on the ten dot that the other dotted cheetahs. Does that also apply to to the bone cheetah? I have never actually seen one in person but I thought since Perry was on this post that he might comment for us.
Thanks, Tom

The USA knife is the standard 6111 1/2. There are three variations on the tang stamp, the standard shown, no pattern number, and 61111 1/2. Both of the latter are not very common and bring a lot of money. Your knife has a book value of 400.00 in mint condition, Tony's list not mine. In the condition it's in, near mint, I'd say it should bring around 275.00 give or take.

In regards to the dotted knife, I could see it wasn't a 10 dot 'cause there would have been one more dot further left on the tang. Check the attached picture of a ten dot and notice that the dots start to the left of the "C" in Case.

Ten dot Stag Cheetah's are quite rare and bring a lot of money. There is a very easy way to tell if it's a 10 dot. We'll make a little game of this and see who can answer first. Don't look at the dots, that's not the way to tell. If anyone asks, there are no 8 dot Chettah's, only 9's and 10's. Also, the only "real" Cheetah's are stag. A lot of folks call all 11 1/2 patterns Cheetah but, they are really just "Lockbacks".

thanks for the help everyone. I recently purchased them in a lot of old case red bone knives from the '70's I will be putting these two and maybe a couple others on ebay within a couple weeks. I looked them over and they are very clean knives, I would venture to say they are mint, well made precision knives, thats' for sure. It's a shame case don't still produce such a fine knife.

Well, Johnnie was first, but I'll say he hit the nail on the head!

Yessir...you hit the nail on the head! Never seen a 10 dot that had a pattern number on it.

Here are photos of the Case XX USA spring guard lockback with the factory error of an additional #1 in the pattern number - Pattern number 61111 1/2 L. The handles are jigged bone and it is in mint condition.

I bought it new about 1970 in a small mom and pop hardware store in northeast Los Angeles. It was loose in a Case display case (no box or papers) along with many other xx's and xx usa's. I bought this one and as many of the others as I could afford. I told a friend and he bought all of the other ones.

I kept this one when I sold my knife collection because it was one of my favorites. I didn't know about the factory error until much later.

Thats a great looking knife! They are seldom seen with the extra one. I used to have one, and wish that I had not gotten rid of it. Congrats!

Great knife Gumshoe! A belated welcome to the forum.

That is the one knife I am missing to fill out my CASE 11-1/2L "Sub Collection" of knives covering XX era thru 1981' when CASE discontinued the 11-1/2L pattern. I have all the knives including the 10 dot Cheeetah Prototype (thanks to help from Perry in locating one) except that one and three even rarer, not well known prototypes I will likely never see nor own. I also own six of the rare 1977' Blue Scroll Engraved 5111-1/2LSSP, 1000 made, one of which is rarer with no serial number. The CASE swing guard is my favorite pattern.
As far as the USA variations, I proudly own several standard USAs and a no model stamp factory error with some beautiful strawberry bone.
I have posted these in several other posts but please allow me to share again. All pics have descriptions.
Although I stll love and enjoy my collection and carry various CASE knives daily including an 6111-1/2L in my pocket today, my interest in knives has been waning abit based on some personal things going on. Thanks for posting that fine beauty Gumshoe as I feel abit more interested again.

Regards, Jerry
