Just received a very real looking e-mail supposedly from PayPal, telling me that there was a problem with my account and to open up a message lower down the page for more info. I sent it to [email protected] and within 15 minutes they replied that it was bogus.

the years. If someone wasn't paying attention and gave these Crooks

their Password, they could get their account cleaned out in a

hurry!

me too, jim, at least 10 phonys. if you see one on your regular mail go directly to ebay/paypal. if it's a real email from them it will be available in your mesages. never had a real problem concerning my accounts. that's why it is important to answer email from paypal only through ebay and paypal. phishing is rampant!

It is very important to forward these "phishing" contacts to [email protected] .
I do it every time.

I get those all the time. I forward them to spoof too. Probably from out of the country scammers or phishers. I get the same thing from ebay also and send them to spoof at ebay. They never get caught from what I've heard.

Pretty much they shut them down but they are back up in 2 days. Report phishers or unsolicted emails to [email protected] or to [email protected] whichever the case may be. The sites look exactly like ebay or PayPal but ask information and won't call you by your given name, might use an ebay user name or email name, but NEVER your real name. They may use a phony excuse, so you fill out a form giving all kinds of information. They are real easy to spot and I pull some out of my spam just to report it if I can get a header.


If you use Outlook you can help prosecute these guys and put them away. Click on options or view options depending on your version and you have a record of where the email travel as well as a point of origin. I used to get some from Korea and Romania, but I get virtually none any more. So in the long run getting that data to the right people does work.

Anyhow, copy and paste that header to the email to one of the spoof sites (ebay to ebay and PayPal to PayPal) and it will help them build a criminal case. I was getting dozens of these each week and I have not had one in quite some time, maybe 3 - 4 months.

PS they are great to send to an unsuspecting knife dealer that just hosed you!

Hell, when i first joined this site it was the first time i ever used a computer and didn't know one end from the other (still don't). point is i remember something like these e-mails and i think i responded to one! What kind of trouble can or did i get myself into guys? Internet is a dangerouse place for a guy like me. Its like being 8 years old and lost in the woods

Potentially, and what they are after, identity theft. I've seen some forms that ask everyting from name and adress to social security number.

Really that is a good analogy, lost in the woods. If you don't know what it is, just delete it.

I have also received those emails.

But a few weeks ago, I received a couple emails from supposed ebay buyers wondering where their stuff was, and why hadn't I shipped it yet. They were going to report me, blah, blah.

The emails looked very convincing, except the fact that I have never sold anything on ebay.

I would caution those that do alot of selling, to carefully look at these emails before replying or clicking on links.
